Outbreak Information

CDC - Outbreak of Lung Injury Associated with the Use of E-Cigarette, or Vaping, Products

As of February 18th, 2020 there have been 2,807 hospitalized cases (96 new cases since 1/21) and 68 deaths in the U.S. associated with EVALI (e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury) according to the CDC. There have been 78 hospitalized cases in North Carolina as of 2/20/2020.

Due to continued declines in new EVALI cases since September 2019, and the identification of vitamin E acetate as a primary cause of EVALI, updates on the number of hospitalized EVALI cases and deaths are no longer being provided by the CDC or NC DPH.
